CLASSROOMS

ECLA has (2) two-year-old classrooms to best meet the needs of your child. There is a big developmental difference between a younger and an older two-year-old, and we want to make sure that we keep your child engaged with appropriate learning activities while they are in our care.  Our two-year-old rooms are some of the most fun at ECLA!

ARRIVAL TIME

When your two-year-old is dropped off in the Navigators or Investigators classroom, parents and teachers will discuss any concerns or events that the teacher should be aware of. It is the job of both the parent and teacher to help the child make the transition from home to school. At this age, children are excited to be at school but may struggle for a short period when they are separated from their parents. There may be tears, but know that they will be short-lived. We will make sure that your child is well taken care of and quickly involved in classroom activities to keep them engaged.

EATING

Our two-year-olds are becoming pros at feeding themselves. They are able to start drinking from cups (no more sippy cups!) and begin using utensils at the table. These are very crucial developmental skills and as messy as it can get, it is important to let your child feed themselves. We clean up spills with smiles at Excel Creative Learning Academy, because we understand that it is a developmental milestone for your child.

SLEEPING

Our two-year-olds usually sleep for about two hours. Everyone has their own individual cots and sheets to nap on. Feel free to send in a small pillow and blanket and/or stuffed animal to make nap time easier. Our children are so engaged and busy throughout the day that they usually have no problems taking an afternoon nap. Our teachers will be there helping your child to get comfortable and relaxed if they have a hard time.

POTTY TRAINING

Navigators are very involved with potty training, and most of our Investigators are potty trained already! We will work together with you when your child is ready to potty train. Our toilets and sinks are down low to help your child transition and become independent using the potty. Accidents are going to happen and we don't get upset about it. Please send in several changes of clothing for your potty training child, as well as socks and easy to clean shoes (such as Crocs). We will keep you up to date on how your little one is doing when it comes to using the potty.

DEVELOPMENT

In our twos classrooms we get messy and have lots of fun doing it! We use art, SMART Boards, sensory tables, books, gardening, and outside adventures to learn all about ourselves and our surroundings. This is such an important year for your child's development! Literacy skills start at a young age and at Excel Creative Learning Academy we will enrich your child's surroundings to help build their vocabulary and letter knowledge.  In these classrooms, your child will work each week to add things to their student portfolio, and by the end of the year you will see just how far your child has come!

PICK UP TIME

Teachers will share information about the child's day with their parents. This is also a time for transition from teacher to parent.
